Distributing DApps in a decentralized future

by SASKIA

DApps require dedicated hardware

“How can we contribute to growing the userbase of DApps in a fully decentralized future with respect for the Web3 philosophy and privacy of data and identity?” This is the starting point of each decision made by AVADO.

The possibility for DApps to put their package on our AVADO hardware node is an important step in the distribution of nodes and helps to achieve decentralization.

DApps should be easy to use

Our plug & play solution with its very convenient wizard makes it easy to run your own node. Packages are constantly updated in our AVADO DAppstore. We support our partners in their quest to get the web3 software in as many users’ hands as possible.

Latest example: HOPR

The HOPR protocol provides network-level and metadata privacy for every type of data exchange. HOPR offers the tools and framework for the Web3 ecosystem, ensuring everyone’s control of their privacy, data, and identity as they navigate online. The HOPR protocol introduces the first-ever open incentivized mixnet, where anyone can earn tokens for staking and running nodes.

“It’s incredible to think that the majority of nodes are run on cloud servers predominantly controlled by Amazon and Alibaba,” said Dr. Sebastian Bürgel, Founder of HOPR. “Our HOPR Hardware Node does not only protect the integrity of the Ethereum blockchain but also pays for itself by relaying data through participating HOPR nodes.”

Residential nodes are necessary…if one day, AWS is shutting down all servers running a blockchain node, DApps would stop working.

That’s why AVADO partnered with HOPR and developed a residential plug-and-play PC with the HOPR package pre-installed on the system. This approach results in a permissionless protocol without a gatekeeper. Everybody can use the technology and it is open source.

A HOPR node needs to be available 24/7

AVADO had an interview with Kevin Leu, Head of Marketing of the HOPR team. When we asked about how HOPR is contributing to decentralization we got a very determined answer: “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to run a HOPR node. Particularly for users who have minimal tech knowledge and for those who want to always have their node plugged in and earning incentives. These node runners help ensure decentralized data privacy”.

The waiting list for the HOPR Box shows that they are on the right track and that there is an audience waiting to pioneer the ethereum ecosystem in this way.

Kevin also points out the importance of choosing dedicated hardware. “Dedicated hardware means you can always run your HOPR node, 24/7, and not have to worry about keeping your computer up and running all the time.

He explained that it is important to understand that HOPR isn’t functioning as a traditional communication product. It may sound similar because data is being relayed through nodes, which hides/masks data through multiple “hops”. That’s the communication going on. However, you should not compare it with a decentralized version of for example “Whatsapp”.

Earning rewards for running a HOPR node

The HOPR node can be installed with or without the hardware. Just keep in mind, it is better for decentralization if we don’t rely on cloud infrastructure.
Setting up the HOPR Box is easy… You don’t need any technical skills — it is as simple as connecting it to your home router and you’re set.

Everybody running a node will earn ERC-20 HOPR tokens. These tokens will be distributed when the HOPR mainnet launches in late 2020.
